DRAFT 1!
The whole village was extremely raucous. It was filled with screaming and wailing of people. Vijaya and his family were no exceptional, they were also seeking around for a refugee, under the blazing hot sun. Like what everyone fear, the civil war have started, people around were indomitable. They could only seek for a safer and better place to settle themselves. Hours and days have pass, Vijaya and his family were still walking even when it is at night. Due to their impecunious, they could only depend on some scramble bits of bread to survive.
The long and hectic journey has finally ended, fecklessly, Vijaya and his family with torn clothes walked into the refugee.
Prabakaran, father of Vijaya said firmly, “ We don’t know how long we can stay here, so be prepared to be separate anytime.”
Jubaidah, the elder sister said cheerfully, “ It doesn't matter as we get to rest now!”
Straight after that, she went to the riverside to join the other girls who are bathing.
Weerakoon, the sensible brother said, “She's forever like this, always forget how much hardship we'd gone through just like when the Sinhalese attack our village and mother ....”
Father stared at him sternly, and he immediately turned away and started to unpack their belonging. Prabakaran still remembered clearly how things get worsen.
The tensions between the government and Tamil militant groups had been brewing since the 1970s. Like most other conflicts of South Asia, the origins of this rift can be traced backed to colonial times. Yet the Sinhalese is not satisfied with the number of Tamils, so the conflict begun.
Its been a couple of weeks since they have been here. Just when they thought that they are finally safe, the horrendous sound of gunshots and bombing were heard directly.
Jubaidah yelled out loud, “ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! After two decades of fighting and one failed attempts at peace talks, they're still fighting!”
Everyone were pushing and knocking on each other.
Weerakoon said nervously, “Vijaya! Quickly pack up our stuffs! Be quick!”
Vijaya just stood rooted to the ground, not moving nor shouting.
Prabakaran shouted straight into Vijaya ear, “Stop daydreaming! We've to get out of here in no more than ten minutes!”
Vijaya was still not moving, yet tears were streaming down his sweaty cheek.
Weerakoon hold him tight on the shoulder and said, “We've no time to lose! Vijaya, remember mother?”
Vijaya nodded his head, in his heart her mother was his heroin. Soldiers killed Darshini, Vijaya’s mother terribly while she’s saving the whole family from being attack.
Weerakoon said calmly, “Vijaya, remember what we promise mother? We told her we'll not give up on our life no matter how tough life was, we've to persevere, and fight for our freedom!”
Vijaya suddenly started packing hurriedly.
Out of nothing, Jubaidah fainted. Prabakaran open his eye widely, and walk towards Jubaidah and gave her a big tight of slap. Jubaidah jumped up and was awake.
Weerakoon face turned red and shouted, “Is this the right time to play such a joke? You know how dangerous this situation is! STOP BEING SO CHILDISH!”
Jubaidah sudden capricious of becoming so insensible was when their mother was killed. Up to now, she cannot face the reality that her mother was dead.
Jubaidah said softly, “I'm so sorry, for causing so much troubles ever since mother was dead.”
Prabakaran hug her and said, “That’s my daughter.”
Everyone was already rushing their way out but we were just getting ready. Vijaya’s family was already walking ahead of him, as they were too happy that Jubaidah has finally come to her senses. Vijaya was trying to catch up with them when a guy who was also rushing, knocked Vijaya hard at his shoulder and he fell flat down. No one noticed that Vijaya was gone until Prabakaran realised that he was missing. However, it was all too late. Vijaya was lost and the war continue.
